John Neary specializes in figurative and portrait sculpture. He utilizes the lost wax process, rubber molds, wax and plaster casting, armature building and patinas to make his beautiful bronze creations.  Neary attended the Pratt Institute, and has been studying sculpture for 20 years. He attended schools such as College of Marin in Marin, California, the City College at Fort Mason, and UC Berkeley, as well as the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.   Neary has worked in film and also as a computer animator. Currently,  he is a sculpture instructor at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California.

Sculpting, for Neary, is “like a meditative departure, a gateway from the primitive, internal struggle with fear, anger, confusion, apathy, frustration and ignorance. I attempt to use the figure to express the sensation of the inner struggle. I search for poses that can awaken an emotion, non verbally reminding me to reconnect with the inner grace.”
