SCOTT FREEMAN – Updated Bio, 2009
“The arts speak the language of transcendence: that which is beyond the ordinary, everyday experience” says Scott Freeman. “We all experience moments of transcendence, and these are the moments most of us look forward to most in life. They may be moments of beauty, peace, intimacy spirituality, celebration, or meaning, but they are in some way set apart from the ‘everydayness’ of life. Part of my aim as a painter is to create an aesthetically transcendent experience for the viewer.”
Scott is a fine artist, physical theatre performer, and award-winning children’s book author/illustrator. He received his BFA in painting/printmaking from the Kansas City Art Institute in Kansas City, Missouri (1982.) In 2001, after working 10 years as an artist/designer for Hallmark Cards, Inc., Scott and his artist wife, Mollie, moved their family to Colorado to pursue their fine art careers full-time. Since that time, Scott’s work has won numerous awards and has become widely collected across the United States. In 2007 Scott was featured in Southwest Art magazine as an Artist to Watch.
Scott divides his time between painting in the field and in the studio, teaching painting workshops, performing, and participating in plein air painting events across the country. He and Mollie make their home in downtown Loveland, Colorado with their five children.
